As the vibrant Carnival season approaches, the music scene is abuzz with a release that carries both rhythm and resilience. Trilla-G, the celebrated Bouyon artist, unveils his latest track, “Congratulations,” a song that intertwines his musical prowess with a deeply personal journey of triumph over adversity.
In July 2025, Trilla-G, whose real name is Gael Jno Baptiste, received a life-altering diagnosis: cancer. This unexpected challenge forced the artist to pause and reflect. The initial shock brought moments of fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty, yet it also ignited a profound sense of faith and determination within him. “There were moments where the weight of it all felt unbearable,” he shared. “But I made a decision that as long as I had life, I had a chance to fight.”
Rather than retreating from the public eye, Trilla-G chose to channel his energy into creativity. He committed to improving his health, nurturing his spiritual life, and using music as a source of strength. This resolve saw him continue to perform at major events like the Virginia and Miami Carnivals, the UberSoca Cruise, and shows in Aruba, all while undergoing treatment. A standout moment came with his performance at Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival, a significant event that coincided with the release of his debut album, Take Me As I Am: The Album. Despite the physical toll, Trilla-G’s passion for music remained unwavering.
“Congratulations,” written during this period of introspection, is an anthem of survival and gratitude. As of February 5, 2026, Trilla-G announced he is officially cancer-free, infusing the track with even greater significance. “The song is about gratitude,” he explained. “Grateful to still be here. Grateful for life, for faith, and for the people who stand by you.”
The track masterfully blends Trilla-G’s signature Bouyon sound with heartfelt emotion, featuring contributions from long-time collaborator Th3rd from the USVI. The production was led by Andel “Fr3EzE” Horsford and Dernell Green, with additional writing by Shane Maloone and Christon Jno Baptiste, and live guitar by Giovannie Green. The official music video, released shortly after his final treatment, subtly marks a new beginning for the artist.
As Trilla-G steps into the festivities of Real Mas, “Congratulations” is more than just a song; it is a powerful reminder of resilience and the joy of simply being alive. Through his music, Trilla-G not only celebrates his personal victory but also inspires others to find strength and gratitude in their own journeys.
